Project type: Education
Completion Date: 2023
Our Role: Mechanical & Electrical Design
The UCD NCIG project involved the relocation of the School of Earth Sciences from their existing facility within the UCD Science West building to the existing UCD Science South building, Ground floor. The project involved the strip-out and redesign of the existing GF laboratory area to meet School of Earth Sciences requirements. GFA of 550m2, practical completion was September 2023. Energy efficiency and sustainability were clear priorities on this project for UCD building office.
Energy Efficiency:
This has been achieved with the following mechanical and electrical design solutions:
- Heat Pump technology for new ventilation plant
- Heat pump technology heating and cooling office and equipment rooms.
- High efficiency fan motors with lowest feasible fan power
- Heat Recovery on all laboratory exhaust air with connection to existing central manifolded system.
- Bespoke hybrid Fume Hood design incorporating HEPA filtered air using down flow fans providing people and product protection.
- Hydrofluoric Acid Fume hoods with Scrubber and dosing technology.
- Energy-efficient lighting (LED) utilised throughout
- Energy metering – electricity sub-metering of significant energy areas and equipment.
- Building Management System – including integration with the existing building and Campus network
M&E Services Included:
- Laboratory ventilation design including the use of Pressure independent control technology with integration with the existing supply and exhaust building manifolded systems
- Hot & Cold-Water services
- Laboratory chemical waste installation
- Laboratory process Gas installation C/W Laboratory gas detection system
- General Power and Emergency Lighting
- Fire Alarm, Access Control, Data, etc.
